Step 1 - When do you need Windows 98Windows 98 is needed for some games that are not or with modern Windows machines (Win7,8, Vista.). How to tell the age of a howard miller grandfather clock. Between such games we can name: Civilization 2, Road Rash, Outlaws,Grand Prix Manager, Adventures of Lomax and many more. If you download such games and try to run them, you will have following error:'The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86(32-bit) or X64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher'The easiest way to make those games work is to install a Windows 98 emulation with Virtual Box.
It must be said that once you'll have the machine, you will be able to use for DOS games as well, since Win98 is based on DOS system. So, if you find problem with Dosbox, this can be a good alternative. Step 2 - Software you'll needFirst of all you need to install OracleVM program. It's free and easy to use. Later on you will need to procure a Windows 98 installation disc (within license key) and a video driver - you can download from the links below:.

I'm trying to set up file sharing between my Mac OS and Windows 98. I think the reason it's not working at the moment is that I haven't installed Guest Additions. However, Guest Additions.iso is attached in Media Manager.
It also looks fine in settings (see screengrabs, correct me if I'm wrong).Settings:In the virtual machine it doesn't automatically run, and if I try to manually run it nothing happens.Bottom two.exe files don't run in W98, top.exe does nothing if you click on it:Any ideas?

If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example). I can get you VMware virtual machines (VMware Player is free and will run these) with VMware Additions installed. However, in 95, VMware's graphics drivers do not work, so you will be stuck in 16 colours. I haven't got sound working in 95, 98 or 98SE yet, but those have true colour at whatever resolution you desire, and internet works on them (IE 5.5 is installed in Windows 95 and IE 6.0 is installed in 98 and 98SE). I don't know how big that'll be when WinRAR'd, but it'll certainly take one hell of a long time for me to upload (my upload speed doesn't go above 50 KB/s), and I won't be able to do it any time relatively soon.sup.

Thanks for the great instruction KurtAust. I am now very happily running some 16 bit programs on my Windows 7 64 bit machine.Like nicklxxxiii, I had trouble with sdd-win-7.0.0.340-BETA.EXE.
My virus scanner didn't like it so the version my original CD image file wouldn't run.I had to disable Avast, then I download it fromI checked the MD5 hash at which also gave me some confidence that the file was safe. All was good once a new CD image was made. Also, file sharing seems problematic with Windows 9x guests. I have found that sharing over the network works well. I got the basic instructions fromI now have a folder 'shareddocs' on my host desktop (to the IP address of the guest, in my case 10.1.1.23) which is accessed in the guest via Network Neigborhood / 'computer name' / shareddocsThanks again for you great instructions.
It seems like every tutorial on the internet describes how to install from an iso file. I don't want to do this because I don't have an iso file and I don't want to pay for a program to extract the iso from my windows 98 cd. Poweriso free version only allows a file up to 300MB to be extracted from disc. My copy of 98 is much larger than this. I can't figure out how to boot from a live cd and install the os from disk in virtualbox. Is this even possible without the iso file? I'm doing this for my dad who just got an old windows game for his birthday.
I feel bad for him that he can't play it. Any help is appreciated. I appreciate the feedback. This program certainly has a lot of features and seems useful but Im not entirely sure how to get the iso with this program.
I tried the 'create image file from disc' then before hitting the start button I changed the output file type from bin to iso and then hit start and was given this message:ISO is not an appropriate container format for the current disc but today is your lucky day and I will make the necessary adjustments (convert MODE2/FORM1 to MODE1) if you want me to?If you don't the file will be created with a.bin extension.end messageI do not want a.bin.I suspect I got this error because of the way the files are stored on the disc. Here is the root folder contents of the disc:ADDONSCDSAMPLEDRIVERSTOOLSWIN98AUTORUNREADMESETUPSETUPTIP.txtObviously WIN98 is on the disc. I'm unsure if I should burn the WIN98 folder by itself or if all the contents should be included in the iso.Additionally I saw another option on the imgburn menu that says create image from files/foldersI tried running this on the WIN98 folder by itself and got a.mds file and I'm pretty sure I changed it to iso output. I tried this a few more times changed various settings and all results were unsuccessful.
I hope that's enough information for you to understand my situation. If you need more information do not hesitate to ask. Also thank you immensely for your time.
